We use both hemispheres of our brain, but theory has it that one side is usually dominant. Take this quiz to see if you favor your right or left brain.

Click here to take the test.

The test is free, and you can even see your basic results without entering an email address.

I took the test and according to the results I am predominantly left brained.

Here is the breakdown of my score:

You responded as a right brained person to 3 questions, and you responded as a left brained person to 16 questions. According to the Hemispheric Dominance test, you use the left side or your brain the most.

I’m not too surprised as I can’t draw, paint, sculpt or create anything resembling art. I love math, science and can spend the entire day doing research. My scores are somewhat close together, so I would assume that’s why I am a daydreamer and don’t wear a watch. (Of course these are all my musings and have no scientific basis.)

Take the test and leave a comment with your score. Does it match your personality?

  3. You responded as a right brained person to 9 questions, and you responded as a left brained person to 10 questions. You seemed to be comfortable using strategies for both sides for the brain. Your preference may be situational and apparent mainly when stress in a factor. This does not necessarily mean that you are ambidextrous

  4. I answers 10 questions right brained and 9 left brained. They said I am practically whole-brained! :-)

  6. I got 16 right and 3 left. Totally matches my personality. I rarely think before I talk I’ll just start saying non-complete sentences without realizing it sometimes haha.

  7. They don’t even have a test posted. The link leads you to a bunch of Time Warner Advertisements. What a scam.

    • Thanks for the info, Lynne. Sometimes businesses lose their domain name (web address) suddenly. Sometimes they just disappear. We’ll look into it and find a new test to link to as soon as possible.

  8. Hey guys, I don’t want to be a party pooper, but I’m a third year psychology student and hempispheric dominance is impossible to determine even using scientific methods and tools at the best of times, yet alone using an online quiz. Do some research before you walk away thinking “yeh, I’m right handed and it says I’m 80% right side dominant” (not that anyone’s directly said that). Firstly, the brain is contralateral to your body, meaning the right hempisphere controls the left side of your body and the left hemisphere controls the right side. Secondly, there is NO scientific evidence to suggest that characteristics (such as creativity, reasoning, logical thinking etc)is limited to one hempisphere. The brain is a network, constructed by neuronal networks. These networks are connected from all areas of the brain and the communication between hemispheres occurs via the corpus callosum. No brain function can be restricted to one area as all areas are connected, and unfortunately science does not know enough about structure-function in the brain as yet to be able to explain how it all works.

  9. I received 51% right-brained and 49% left-brained. Seems about right. I’m left handed, but I do alot of things right handed. Also, I’m a creative person, but I’m very practical at times too. Sometimes being “balanced” gets in the way for me as far as decision making. I can be a dreamer at times, and then my realistic side gets in the way, or vice versa! :D

  12. I remember doing this test almost 6 years ago, or so, and it turned out to be %60 – %40, my right being the most dominate. It suprised me to see %51 – %50. And to everyone who is dominate on their right side.. no need to worry.. I still have trouble with math, but math isn’t the mass spectrum of the left side of the brain, so achieving both balances won’t be a daunting task. :)

Your percentage score for the right brain is 40%.

You are more left-brained than right-brained. Your left brain controls the right side of your body. In addition to being known as left-brained, you are also known as a critical thinker who uses logic and sense to collect information. You are able to retain this information through the use of numbers, words, and symbols. You usually only see parts of the “whole” picture, but this is what guides you step-by-step in a logical manner to your conclusion. Concise words, numerical and written formulas and technological systems are often forms of expression for you. Some occupations usually held by a left-brained person include a lab scientist, banker, judge, lawyer, mathematician, librarian, and skating judge.

Erin, it seems we have similar mindset.

  14. Hi Alice! Thank you so much for your comment. I received an email from another reader who also tested 50/50. I am so envious of the balance you have. I hope you enjoy it here and come back often. :-)

I love science too and somethimes i spend all day for research too, and day after i draw all day. I’m able to think both in words and pictures. i am day dreamer and i am logic at the same time. I’m right handed with cross dominance. I think those things are really interested, i like to explore human mind and to use my knowledges for create my characters.

    • ha i am the same i have taken many test and they say that i am 50-50 and like you i love the arts and the sciences. i read up on psychology than go and explore philosophy. i am the person people go to when they need a logical point of view and when they need creative help. like you people and the mind interest me. i am almost 50-50 on introversion and extroversion as well. i enjoy people and hanging out but love my alone time as well. like you i can spend a whole day reading articles on psychology today, than the next drawing modeling with clay, and so forth. i like this because i have many interest and can find many things to do which helps me hardly ever get board.

      • There must be alot of us then. 50-50 on a couple of tests and with spinning objects (do they turn clockwise or counter clockwise?) tests, I can always see both directions. 1 thing that is very interesting is I’m also in tune with my artistic talents as well…love playing music/writing songs one day, then reasearch psychology the next…funny how freakishly the same 50/50’s are. Can also be introverted/extroverted but feel the need to balance both.

          • I’ll say…well on the internet anyway. Seems everyone I know in real life is one way or the other. Do you find yourself drawn to psychology/science and energized by both introversion and extroversion as well? Let me put it this way. I worked with a company’s accounts while in a part time band. Then I worked at a bank and now I teach language arts. Lol…I’m all mixed up.
