Brain Training 101 Has A Brand New Look

Email Print

I’m sprucing up the place a bit. The old layout was alright, but I wanted to get the home page better organized so it would be easier for you to find what you’re looking for.

For those wanting specifics:

I run this blog on a platform called WordPress. The sleek new theme (design) I am using is Lifestyle by Brian Gardner. He puts out amazing work and offers dedicated support to all who purchase his themes.

It looks a bit different from the demo template because I heavily customized it so the site would have its own unique look.

There’s a swanky new logo too, and it was designed by the talented Tori Deaux over at MindTweaks. Tori had the logo done (revisions and all) within 24 hours of me griping on Twitter.

I’ve still got some kinks to work out, so you’ll notice some adjustments over the next few weeks. If you catch any bugs, broken links and such, kindly drop me a line and let me know. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

I know it can be a little frustrating when sites go through redesigns. If you’re like me, you’ll need some time to get adjusted and figure out where everything is.

The good news is that this change bodes very well for our brain training. We’re told to challenge our brains with novel activities. For you regular readers, the switch to the new layout will do just that.

When you normally land on a page of Brain Training 101, your brain already knows what to expect. It knows where the navigation bar is and where you go to find the brain games.

Here’s a screen shot of the old layout.

For the next few times you visit, your brain is going to have to do some work. It’s going to be taking note of the new, lighter background. It will file the logo away so it feels familiar next time you see it. It will also see that the sidebar has been redone and will begin to memorize the layout.

All good things for a brain that was getting too used to the familiar.

Thanks for all the support during the redesign!

  2. Thanks you two! It still has some work to go, but overall I’m very happy with it. It will be good to get my head out of the code for a while and get back to writing.

  4. I’m really liking the new design… it’s a lot more “personal” in feel, if that makes sense?

And hey, what a cool logo. That Tori chick sure did work fast, huh? ;) Seriously, I’m glad it came out well, and I really do like the look of the changes!
