Adrew, in my experience it doesn't make any difference if you don't believe in hypnosis. The result are always the same.
I totally agree with your 2. statement ;)

I believe following two items are important to make hypnosis a successful therapy:

1. Your thinking that hypnosis will be successful
2. Your commitment to follow instructions
To do this, meditation before starting this therapy is very important. Who would like to go for hypnosis should do a meditation and feel that this would be a successful method for their treatment

Erin,

This is a nice simple straightforward guide you created that people can follow in order to induce themselves into a state of trance and conduct hypnosis upon themselves. If people followed these 7 steps you've layed out then they'd be overcoming a lot of the typical stresses to do with day to day life.

I hope to see some further articles on hypnosis in addition to your other brain training articles, perhaps something to do with covert hypnosis.

I agree this is a good summary of self hypnosis. I think self hypnosis is great to use and very easy to learn. It's very different from covert hypnosis or therapeutic hypnosis because you must play the role of hypnotist and subject.

This is a great summary of self hypnosis for beginners. Let me add a couple of things. It's helpful, when starting out, to give yourself an instruction as to the length of time you will be in trance, and also the purpose of your trance. Your unconscious is a great clock. You'll come out when you said you would. By giving the unconscious an instruction as to the key purpose of trance, you amplify the effects.

Nice blog you have. I'll be back!
